What is a Skin Tag?

Skin Tags are small brown or flesh-coloured growths that hang from the surface of your skin.

Skin Tags occur when extra cells grow on the top layers of the skin. They tend to develop when the skin rubs against itself; meaning that they are more common in those who are overweight as there are more folds of skin for the tags to form.

They are completely harmless, and don’t usually cause any pain or discomfort. However, they can snag on clothing or jewellery and bleed a result. They can also lower self-esteem.

  What are warts and verrucae?

Warts are small, harmless lumps of skin caused by a virus known as the human papillomavirus (HPV). A wart will usually have a flesh coloured appearance and the skin forming the wart will be rough. Warts are common in school-aged children but can occur at any age.

Verrucas can occur on the sole of the foot or toes. They are under the skin and usually have distinctive tiny black dots which are blood vessels.

Warts do not cause pain but they can be itchy. A verruca can cause some pain, similar to the feeling of standing on a needle.

Both warts and verrucas are caused by viruses.

You can get the HPV virus from direct contact with the skin from another person who has the virus or indirectly through contaminated surfaces such as swimming pools or gymnasiums. HPV infects the cells in the outer layer of the skin, causing them to grow and form a wart. It can take up to a year for a wart to appear for the first time.

The treatment for warts, verrucas and skin tags is quick, simple and effective, restoring clear healthy skin and confidence.

Here at GRB Skin Clinic, We use the latest gold-standard cryotherapy technology to remove skin lesions.

Cryotherapy: The skin tag, warts and verrucas are frozen by applying liquid Nitrogen (a gas that produces freezing temperatures) to the area. The cold temperature kills the cells within the skin tag, wart or verruca, blocking the blood supply to the area, causing it to naturally fall off. In some cases irritation and temporary skin discolouration may occur.

In some cases it may takes a few sessions.

Why do you need to remove warrs and verrucas?

Warts do not cause you any harm, but some people find them itchy, painful or embarrassing. Verrucas are more likely to be painful.

If you don’t remove them, they can easily spread to other parts of the body as well as to other people.

In some instances warts can cause further issues such as cancer; HPV and genital warts have been linked to several different cancers, including anal cancer, cervical cancer and throat (oropharyngeal) cancer.

Cryotherapy can be used to treat:
Moles – ( GP referral required )
Skin tags
Xanthelasma (only if the cholesterol is under control)
Pigmentation / Sun damage
Seborrhoeic Keratosis
Cherry Angioma

Cryotherapy treatment is safe and painless. Liquid nitrogen is used directly on the area of the skin where the lesion lays.

The cells rapidly freeze and die off so that they can no longer reproduce.

We offer a 15-minute consultation at a time that suits you.

The cost of a consultation is £20, we will assess your needs, check your health conditions, and then arrange a bespoke Cryotherapy treatment plan with you.
